Health Care Regulation in America: Complexity, Confrontation and Compromise
Reviews
"This book is authoritative, comprehensive, and encyclopedic in scope. At the same time, it tends to focus on the major regulatory programs' goals and conflicts, rather than on minute details, which tend to change frequently. Major regulation topics are cross-listed throughout the book, referring the reader to the various relevant chapters. Another good feature of the book is that it uses no legal jargon or terms, and it only cites a small number of relevant court cases.
"In summary, this invaluable book fills a major gap in the health services research literature. It is an important source of information on health care regulations for health professionals, policy analysts and researchers, graduate students in medicine, nursing, public heatlh, public policy studies, and the concerned citizen who is interested in unraveling the complex maze of regulations that govern America's health care."

"This is an invaluable book for anyone interested in navigating the regulatory maze governing health care in the United States. Professor Field is a trustworthy and reliable guide through the complex thicket of laws, policies, agencies, professional organizations, and guidelines that shape what happens in research, marketing, therapy and assessment."

"This book provides very useful information on the nuts and bolts of how the American healthcare system really works. Although regulations are of supreme importance to providers, they have tended to be neglected by academics who are eager to point out their defects without getting into specifics. It will be of particular value to all students and non-Americans who do not have full knowledge of the background details."
Naoki Ikegami, M.D., Ph.D.

"This is an excellent book, clearly written, thorough in its coverage. Field has managed to cover all aspects of regulation, including clear descriptions of agency functions. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a global sense of how we regulate health care delivery in the United States."
